What is Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a complimentary therapy and one of the many facets of alternative medicines available today. It is a method of natural healing which is centred upon universal life force energy.
It is believed that the technique is 2,500 years old and originally came from the Mu people and was passed to Tibetan Buddhist Monks. It was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui in the 1800’s after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life teaching and practising Reiki and today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki (sometimes known as Qi) which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
There are no belief systems attached to Reiki and in my opinion the only prerequisite to healing is that you wish to be healed and you are open to the energy.
Reiki energy works on the higher soul level and it used in a multitude of different ways. Your higher self will assimilate the energy and it will be used to your highest purpose. This could involve physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual healing and however this energy is to be utilised will be decided at a higher level. You may wish for physical healing and receive emotional healing but it will be your higher self that decides what is most beneficial for you at this time in your life. There are very few contraindications to Reiki treatments. I will not work over recent fracture sites as scientific research has shown that Reiki can stimulate bone production and can in fact make bone healing too overactive. Our bones heal with callous bone formation and Reiki increases this callous bone growth and bone can infiltrate into soft tissues.
